WHERE DO OUR UNION DUES GO?

Our international union applies dues to local representation when required.

Our international union applies dues to organize unions in unorganized workplaces.

Dues also go to support efforts to lobby on the federal level for things like OSHA standards for workplace safety, including ergonomics, eliminating the taxes on graduate level courses, research for contract negotiations and education of our union leaders.

Our dues are not used for campaign contributions for elected officials. The union has a separate fund, called COPE, to which members can voluntarily contribute for political campaign contributions.

Seventy Percent of CWA 89177 local union dues collected stay in the local.

Our local union dues pay for the monthly local expenses related to the running of the union.  Such as  meeting hall charges, phone, website, supplies, union training of local leaders, community action, and related union activities, all approved by the general membership.

The majority of union dues collected are used during labor-management negotiations.  This is paid for lost wages of negotiating team, supplies, etc., during negotiations.
